Foods
of The United Arab Emirates
The cuisine of the UAE reflects
the cultural diversity of the country and the "melting pot" it has become.
The fact that the UAE has traditionally been a center for trading has
resulted in an enormous variety of tastes.
There is a great selection
of imported as well as local produce which makes an excellent culinary
experience. Arabic and Middle Eastern food dominate the cuisine, and
the vast majority of the restaurants serve Lebanese food. It is very
hard to find a restaurant that serves UAE meals.
One distinctive flavor of
the Gulf region's cuisine is that of the dried lime: grown in Oman or
imported from Southeast Asia and dried on the tree, this ingredient
is common in the cooking of the region.
