Day 01/Feb 17: Arrive at Cairo International airport, meet and assist at the airport and transfer to your hotel (Pyramid view room). Overnight in Cairo.
Day 02/Feb 18: After breakfast, we start a full day tour to the Giza Pyramids, the only existing wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. We will see the oldest boat in the world – the Cheops Sun Boat, then enjoy a camel ride and visit the Sphinx. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. Back to the hotel and overnight in Cairo. (B/L)
Day 03/Feb 19: After breakfast we drive to the Cairo domestic airport to catch our 1 hour 20 minute flight to Aswan and then another flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel (45 minutes flight time). Arrive in Abu Simbel and visit the magical site and the 2 unique temples of King Ramses 2 and Queen Nefertari. The temples were originally in a different location that was going to be inundated by the rising of Lake Nasr when the High Dam was completed. Archeologists disassembled the temples and painstakingly reassembled them in the current location to preserve them. After our visit, we return to the airport and fly back to Aswan. On arrival in Aswan transfer to your 5 star hotel. After check in, we will enjoy a sail boat ride (Felucca) on the Nile around the Elephantine Island and the Botanical Garden. Back to the hotel and overnight in Aswan. (B)
Day 04/Feb 20: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and visit the High Dam and the Philae Temple dedicated to the Goddess Isis, goddess of love and magic. After our visit we will check in to our 5 star Nile Cruise ship, our home for 3 nights. Lunch will be on board, and the afternoon is free at your leisure. Dinner on board and overnight in Aswan. (B/L/D).
Day 05/Feb 21: After breakfast, we visit Kom Ombo Temple. The Temple of Kom Ombo is shared by the two Gods Sobek and Haroeris. Sobek is depicted as a crocodile and you will find his image everywhere, as well as other signs of worship to this god. Return to the ship for lunch and sail on to Edfu to visit the temple there. The large well-preserved temple complex was built between 237 BCE to 57 BCE, into the reign of Cleopatra VII. Built from sandstone blocks, the huge Ptolemaic temple was constructed over the site of a smaller New Kingdom temple, oriented east to west, facing towards the river. After your visit return to the ship to sail to Esna to get through the locks and move from the high water level to the lower level and continue sailing to Luxor. Dinner on board and overnight. Day 06/Feb 22: After breakfast begin your sightseeing with a visit to the West Bank. In the Valley of the Kings you will visit several tombs that have been preserved. The tombs of Tut Ankh-Amon, Ramses III, Seti I, Ramses VI, Amenhotep II, and more are located here. See the differing types of construction of the burial chambers located in this cut in the mountains. Afterwards visit Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple. At Queen Hatshepsut’s Temple, you will see the reconstructed temple of this fascinating ruler of Egypt. Her story is full of political intrigue and rivalry, a power struggle, murder, and more! Head back to the ship, stopping to see the Colossi of Memnon at the ruins of the tomb of Amenhotep III. Enjoy lunch on the ship, afternoon free at leisure. Dinner on board and overnight in Luxor. (B/L/D).
Day 07/Feb 23: After breakfast we disembark from the ship then depart for a visit to Karnak and Luxor Temples. The Temple of Karnak is dedicated to the Theban Triad of Amon, Mut, and Khonso, and is the largest religious complex in the world. The complex was constructed over several hundred years. You will see the many efforts of successive rulers to put their individual mark on the temple, and efforts to remove the presence of others. After exploring this magnificent site, go to the smaller but just as beautiful Temple of Luxor with its elegant colonnaded hall and sculpture of King Tut and his wife. After our visits we will check in to Steigenberger Hotel Nile Palace (Nile view room guaranteed). The rest of the day is free at leisure, overnight in Luxor. (B)
Day 08/Feb 24: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel, transfer to the Luxor airport for our flight to Cairo. On arrival in Cairo we will visit the Citadel of Salah el din and the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali. The Citadel overlooks the city of Cairo and you will be able to enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city and the Nile from just outside the mosque. After visiting the Citadel we will visit Coptic Cairo and the Hanging Church that was built in the 4th century over the southern gate of the Fortress of Babylon, St. Serguis Church and the Synagogue of Ben Isra, the oldest synagogue in Cairo. Lunch will be at a typical local restaurant. After lunch we will check in to our hotel. The rest of the day is free at your leisure. Overnight in Cairo. (B/L)
Day 09/Feb 25: After breakfast, we visit the Sakkara Step Pyramid, the most ancient man made stone building in the world dating back to 2717 B.C. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. After lunch we visit the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities and the treasures of Tutankamon. Return to the hotel and overnight in Cairo. (B/L).
Day 10/Feb 26: After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Alexandria. On arrival in Alexandria we will visit the National Museum of Alexandria and the Library of Alexandria. The Library of Alexandria was built as a modern library and cultural center to commemorate the ancient Library of Alexandria that was lost to antiquity. Lunch with be at a local restaurant then we will visit the Montazah Palace of King Farouk. Afterwards we check in to the Sheraton Hotel (sea view guaranteed). Overnight in Alexandria. (B/L)
Day 11/Feb 27: After breakfast, we visit the catacombs and you will descend through the central shaft to explore the tunnels below, a blend of Pharaonic, Hellenistic and Roman tombs and collection of artifacts. Afterwards we will visit Pompeii’s Pillar, a Roman triumphal column and the largest of its type constructed outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople. It is the only known freestanding column in Roman Egypt, which was not composed of drums. After visiting the site we will go to the Citadel of Quaitbay to explore this seaside fortress then we will have lunch at a local restaurant. Return to the hotel after lunch and the rest of the day is free at leisure. Overnight in Alexandria. (B/L)
Day 12/Feb 28: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and drive back to Cairo. Arrive in Cairo around 2 pm, check in to your hotel by the airport and enjoy the rest of the day free at leisure. (B)
Mar 1/Day 13: After breakfast, we will check out of the hotel and have a very short drive to the airport for your flight back home. (B)
