Tunis Skyline DAY 1 - Arrival to airport. You will be met, assisted and transferred to the hotel for dinner and overnight in Tunis. DAY 2 - Board the bus for our expedition along the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea to Hammamet to see the castles, and souks for shopping. Continue to Sousse, also known as the Phoenician city of Hadrumatum. Enjoy the breezes from the harbor area, as you walk through the old medina (city), the catacombs where the Romans buried their dead, Port El Kantaoui and perhaps a local museum. Stop to explore the ribat (fort) and Mausoleum. Enjoy lunch at Monastir. Continue to El Jem the site of another famous Roman coliseum similar to the one in Rome and on to Sfax for dinner and overnight. DAY 3 - Explore the old city of Sfax, before boarding the ferry to the island of Djerba (Jerba) for lunch. Djerba is a large island on the south side of the entrance to the Gulf of Gabes. This fertile island produces many kinds of fruit and has many ruins of Roman Civilization. Tour the island including visiting the Synagogue, Potteries of Guellala and the center of the Island Houmt Souk. Return to Gabes for a panoramic tour of the Oasis of Gabes, also to shop in a local market and enjoy the shade of a palm grove. Drive to Matmata for dinner and overnight. DAY 4 - Our journey continues in Matmata where we will see the Troglodyte houses where descendents of the Berbers still live as their ancestors did. Continue to Douz for lunch and optional camel rides into the sand dunes. Visit Kebili on the way to Tozeur across the Salt Lake. Overnight in Tozeur. DAY 5 - After breakfast explore the Oasis in Tozeur with a visit of the Zoo and the Old city. Continue to Nefta where you will visit the Corbeille and the Marabout. Dinner and overnight in Tozeur. DAY 6 - After breakfast, our bus heads to the ancient Roman site of Sufeitula. Visit on of Tunisia's well preserved cities, Sbeitla. Continue to Kairouan located about 30 miles southwest of Sousse. Kairouan is an Islamic Holy City and includes several mosques. It is famous for its leather goods and carpets. Visit the rug factory, the old city and the great Mosques of Kairouan (Okba and Sidi shahbi). Return to Tunis for dinner and overnight. DAY 7 - After breakfast, we visit the famous Bardo Museum where we examine the largest Roman mosaics in the world, and the medina of Tunis for last minute bargain-hunting. We will relax for lunch at a local seashore restaurant. In the afternoon we will visit the famous Carthaginian ruins, which include the Theater, Circus and Baths and also stop at the typical medieval village of Sidi Bou Said. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Tunis. DAY 8 - After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward journey. dunes ($12USD per person, duration one hour). These tours can be arranged upon arrival in Tunisia with our representative. Fees are paid directly to our representative.
