Depart on your eastward flight to Istanbul, then transferring to your flight to Ankara, capital of Turkey, located high in the central Taurus mountains.
Arriving in Ankara, transfer from the airport to the hotel for a Welcome Reception and dinner. Ankara hotel.
Your tour of Ankara includes a visit to the Haci Bayram Mosque, the Temple of Augustine, the Mausoleum of Ataturk and the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, famous for its unique collection of Hattian sun discs and stag cult figures as well as spectacular Hittite statues and reliefs. Continue to the Agzikarahan Caravan-Serai and then to Avanos, in the central region of Cappadoccia, noted for its lovely traditional homes, pottery and onyx. Dinner and overnight.
Full day of sightseeing in the valley. Settled around 4000 BC, the dwellings have been carved into the surrounding rocky hillsides and include churches painted with beautiful frescoes from the Byzantine era. Wind and rain have eroded the brittle rock into a spectacular surrealistic landscape of cones, capped pinnacles and fretted ravines of many colors. Continue to explore the Zelve Valley, and Goreme. Stop at the village of Uchisar to enjoy the typical life style of this area and ride donkeys. Dinner and overnight.
Your journey takes you to Konya, the Anatolian center of Islamic mysticism. Time permitting, stop at the Karatay Museum of the famous “Whirling Dervishes,” and the Mausoleum of Mevlana Jelalladin Rumi, founder of this Moslem sect. Drive through the beautiful Taurus Mountains, for dinner and overnight in coastal Antalya.
Explore the ancient cities of Perge and Aspendos. Sit in the ancient theater declared by the European Council in 1988 to be the best in the world and hear the whispers of bygone dramas. Enjoy the bubbling and crashing of the Kursunlu waterfalls. Dinner and overnight at Antalya.
Today, drive along the sunny Mediterranean Sea stopping at Patara, WORLD MONUMENT SITE and then on to Fethiye , popular resort on the Mediterranean. Dinner and overnight.
A full day of exploring the region of Fethiye, which boast of being an important marina at the head of a beautiful bay strewn with islands. A hill crowned by the ruins of the crusader fortress built by the Knights of Rhodes overlooks the little port. Then onto the the city of Caunos and Bodrum for overnight.
Board your boat for a full day cruise around scenic Bodrum Bay including a barbecue lunch. Dinner and overnight in Bodrum.
An early morning departure to Ephesus brings you through the Comlekci Turkish carpet making village of Milas for lunch and shopping. At Ephesus explore the archaeological precincts if the Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Celsus Library and other sights of this magnificent ruin. After a visit to the house of the Virgin Mary in Seljuk, return to Kusadasi for dinner and perhaps a Turkish bath.
Take the better part of the day to roam freely through Kusadasi, then transfer to Izmir for an early evening flight to Istanbul for dinner and overnight..
Explore this fascinating city of the Byzantines.
