Chebikha Oasis, Tunisia

May 2: This morning we will have an excursion by 4×4 to the oases of Chebikha and Tamerza in the mountains near Tozeur, and the sand dunes of Oung Jmel. Return to the hotel in Tozeur for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

May 3: Leave Tozeur to cross the Chot el Jerid, a great salt lake, to reach Kebili and Douz, the gateway to the Sahara. Here you can enjoy an optional camel on the sand dunes of Douz, or just sit and enjoy tea under the palms of the oasis. Afterwards, continue to Matamata and see the homes carved out of the rock (fans of Star Wars will recognize them as one was used as a location in the original movie as Luke Skywalker’s home!). The structures typical for the village are created by digging a large pit in the ground. Around the perimeter of this pit artificial caves are then dug to be used as rooms, with some homes comprising multiple pits, connected by trench-like passageways. Continue to the hotel for overnight (rooms underground) for unique experience. (B/D)

May 4: After breakfast depart for Sfax to visit the Roman Colosseum of El Jem. The colosseum has been partially restored and is still used for events. Continue to Sousse for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

May 5: This morning we will explore Sousse, also known as the Phoenician city of Hadrumatum. Enjoy the breezes from the harbor area, as you walk through the old medina (city), Port El Kantaoui and perhaps a local museum. Stop to explore the ribat (fort) and Mausoleum. Continue to Hammamet to see the fort and market. Afterwards depart for Tunis for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

May 6: Breakfast and transfer to the airport for departure. (B)
