US Embassies Abroad
American embassies can be found on the Department of State’s website: http://www.usembassy.gov/ All addresses and current contact information, including what to do in case of an emergency, will be on each embassy’s web page. You may need to click on the link for US Citizen Services to see the contact information.
A very handy website, also part of the Department of State, is their traveler information page. Here you can find information about passports, travel alerts, and more. Visit http://travel.state.gov/
When you are traveling abroad, please be aware that you are subject to the laws and regulations of the country you are in. If you are suspected of breaking the law and arrested in a foreign country, our diplomatic and consular staff are not able to simply bail you out and send you home. They are there to see that you are treated humanely, that you receive due process under the law, pass messages to family, and that is about it. They do not loan money or buy airline tickets.
If you lose your passport while traveling report it to the nearest US Embassy immediately. They can usually issue a replacement within a short period of time. To expedite this process, always carry a clear copy of your passport’ s information and photo page with you in a separate bag from your passport.
