Morocco Culinary Tour

Welcome to Morocco! On arrival in Casablanca you will be met and transferred to the hotel for overnight.

After breakfast at the hotel we will attend our first cooking class and learn about traditional Moroccan food common in the region. Afterwards embark on a tour of the commercial capital of Morocco, visiting the Hassan II Mosque from the outside, Mohamed V Square, the United Nations Place, the central market, the Habbous sector and the residential area of Anfa before strolling along the Ain Diab corniche, dotted with swimming pools and restaurants. Check out after breakfast and begin our drive north to Tangier, with a stop in Rabat along the way. In Rabat we will see the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and Mausoleum, and see the royal palace from the outside. Continue on to Tangier for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

After breakfast we will have our second cooking class, focusing on the flavors of northern Morocco. Afterwards we will tour the city. Visiting Tangier offers a rich blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. The Caves of Hercules, a stunning natural wonder located just outside the city, provide a fascinating glimpse into both mythology and geology, with their iconic opening shaped like the continent of Africa. Meanwhile, the Kasbah of Tangier, perched above the medina, invites exploration with its maze-like streets, vibrant markets, and historical landmarks. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight. Enjoy breakfast then check out and we drive to the Rif Mountains and the city of Chefchaouen. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. (B/D)

Today we will enjoy a scenic walk to the old city from our hotel. Our path takes us to the upper streets with blue-painted walls offering a colorful background to the handcrafts and flowers everywhere. We will make our way down to the main square and enjoy the shops and historical buildings along the way. We will stop for lunch, on our own, then have free time to wander the winding streets a bit more before meeting our van and drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Depart Chefchaouen with one last scenic look at the blue city from a viewpoint just outside of city, then we make our way to Volubilis. Visiting the Roman site of Volubilis in Morocco is like stepping back in time to the ancient world. Located near the city of Meknes, this well-preserved archaeological site offers a fascinating glimpse into the grandeur of Roman civilization in North Africa. Strolling through the ruins, visitors can marvel at the impressive basilica, triumphal arch, and intricate mosaics that once adorned luxurious villas. The backdrop of rolling hills and olive groves enhances the site's timeless beauty, making it a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and travelers alike. Next is Meknes. This imperial city, once the capital under Sultan Moulay Ismail, boasts magnificent gates, palaces, and gardens that reflect its grand past. The bustling medina, with its vibrant souks and historical sites like the Bab Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, offers a rich tapestry of experiences. After our visit there we continue to Fes for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

After breakfast at the hotel we will enjoy a cooking class that will focus on the tastes of central Morocco. Afterwards we will visit the narrow winding streets of the medina and explore one of Morocco's most stunning examples of Islamic architecture and craftsmanship. Built in the 14th century, this former Quranic school is renowned for its intricate tile work, carved cedar wood, and elaborate stucco decorations. The serene courtyard, with its central fountain and detailed mosaics, provides a tranquil escape from the bustling medina. We will also visit the Nejjarine Museum. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Enjoy an early breakfast then we depart for the edge of the Sahara. Traveling from Fes to Ifrane, then via Midelt to Erfoud, offers a scenic journey through diverse landscapes and cultural experiences in Morocco. Starting in Fes, the route leads to Ifrane, often called "Little Switzerland" for its European-style architecture and lush surroundings. Continuing through the Middle Atlas mountains, the road passes through Midelt, a charming town nestled between the High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges. As you approach Erfoud, known as the gateway to the Sahara, the scenery shifts to dramatic desert vistas. A sunset excursion by 4x4 vehicles to the nearby dunes culminates the journey with the mesmerizing sight of the sun setting over the vast expanse of golden sand, creating an unforgettable and picturesque end to the day's travels. Return to our hotel in Erfoud for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Depart Erfoud after breakfast for Ouarzazate with stops along the way to admire the striking scenery. One stop will be in the Todra Gorges, where we will walk along the spring-fed river in the cool shadows of the tall cliffs on either side. Moroccan families come here to escape the heat and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade. Our next stop will be in Kalaa M’Gouna, the rose capital of Morocco. You will notice that everything is centered around roses and rose production. Even the taxis in the city are rose pink. We will have a stop to see rose water and rose oil production before we continue on to Ouarzazate for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Enjoy breakfast then we check out and depart for Marrakesh. Before we leave the city of Ouarzazate, we will stop at the Kasbah Taourirt. This historic kasbah, once a prominent stronghold of the Glaoui clan, showcases the intricate artistry and strategic design of traditional Moroccan fortresses. Its maze of rooms, courtyards, and towers, adorned with detailed stucco work and carved wooden ceilings, offers a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the past. We will also stop to view the grand Ait Benhaddouh kasbah from the outside, then continue to Marrakesh. On arrival in Marrakesh we will check in to our hotel and rest up a bit before we head to the famous medina and the Jemaa el-Fnaa square for our evening food tour of the market. Taste a variety of popular Moroccan street foods with the locals, and experience the lively square at night! Return to the hotel for overnight. (B/D)

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel then we depart for a full day of sightseeing. The day is devoted to exploring Marrakesh, the "Pearl of the South." Marrakesh was founded in the 11th Century by the Almoravides. Stops may include the Koutoubia Minaret, the Saadien Tombs - a 14th Century necropolis, the Bahia palace and Madersa Ben Youssef. Continue on to the souks with their narrow paths known for their fascinating colors, and the Jemaa El Fnaa, filled with fascinating characters, fire eaters, teeth pullers, fortune tellers, spice, nuts, and incense merchants, story tellers, snake charmers, and tame monkeys, to name a few! Free time to explore on your own, then we return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (B/D)

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast then we depart for our last cooking class of the tour. Afterwards you will have free time, and the van will be available to transport you as needed. Overnight in Marrakesh. (B/D)
